NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Texas Tech track and field team programs stayed inside the USTFCCCA top-10 in the week four rankings released by the organization Tuesday afternoon.

The men moved up one spot this week to No. 5, while the women slipped four spots to No. 9. This past weekend, Tech was represented in three different time zones as the Red Raiders competed in California, Florida, and Oklahoma.

Freshman Ernest Cheruiyot helped the Red Raiders move up in the rankings with his 10k performance in California at the Bryan Clay Invitational. In his first collegiate outdoor race in the event, Cheruiyot dropped a time of 27:52.13, to finish second by just one second. In the process, that time put him No. 2 all-time in Tech history.

Staying on the west coast, Juliet Cherubet competed in the 5k, posting a time of 15:25.71 as she moved to No. 5 all-time for Tech.

For the men, the top-4 teams ahead of Texas Tech are No. 1 Texas A&M, No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Alabama and No. 4 LSU. Texas Tech has yet to see debuts from in certain events from national champions Caleb Dean and Terrence Jones. Dean has not competed since NCAA indoors and Jones has only raced the 4×100 at Texas Relays before pulling up mid-race.

The Red Raiders will travel to Waco this week for the annual Michael Johnson Invitational taking place Friday and Saturday.
