Texas Tech concludes Jarvis Scott Open weekend
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team wrapped up its weekend hosting the third-annual Jarvis Scott Open and competition in Boston at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
In Boston, Gideon Kiplimo opened his 800m season with a time of 1:48.18 finishing second in his heat and 13th overall. It was his first collegiate 800m race.
The men’s mile in Boston saw Vincent Koech clock in at 4:05.00 with Edward Rush going 4:09.40. For Rush, it was his season debut. Ernest Cheruyiot capped off the night for Tech winning his heat of the 3000m in 8:00.49.
Anne-Suzanna Fosther-Katta made her season debut winning the triple jump with two leaps. Her second jump of 13.41m (44-0) stood as the top mark. Suzan Ogunleye finished in second with a personal best 13.11 (43-0 ¼) as Grace Oshiokpu placed third at 13.10m (42-11 ¾).
In the men’s triple jump, Garison Breeding paced the way coming in first with a mark of 15.90m (52-2), a new season best. On his final jump of the day, Stacy Brown Jr. leaped 15.80m (51-10) for a new PB to come away in second place.
Omamuyovwi Erhire recorded a SB with his mark of 15.77m (51-9) in only his second meet of the year he competes in the triple. He finished third overall.
The women’s shot put saw Field Gatlin take third at 15.62m (51-3) as Faith Mitchell set a new PB three times, ultimately finishing fifth with a mark of 15.05m (49-4 ½).
Towards the end of the day, Kaithon McDonald shined in the high jump setting a new PB height of 2.20m (7-2 ½). He finished in third. On the women’s side, Claire Lowrey finished first with a height of 1.82m (5-11.50).
In the men’s 4×400, the tandem of Carl Hicks, Caleb Dean, Josh Bour and Shaemar Uter posted a 3:04.81 – No. 4 all-time in TTU history.
Tech will have the upcoming week off before hosting the Big 12 Indoor Championships Feb. 23-24.
Notables
Mackenzie Hayward tied her season best of 4.18m (13-8 ½).
Markus Brodin set a new PB in the 600yd (1:10.54).
Cole Omlin registered a new PB in the high jump at 2.00m (6-6 ¾).
In the 200m Jack Marshall set a new PB of 21.15.
