KOHALA COAST, Hawai’i — Both sophomore Matthew Comegys and the No. 24 Texas Tech men’s golf team earned top-five finishes at the 2024 Amer Ari Intercollegiate, which concluded on Saturday at the Mauna Lani Resort Golf Club in Hawai’i. In their second spring season event, the Red Raiders posted a collective score of 57-under-par 807, including a 20-under-par 268 in round three, to finish the 20-team event in a tie for fourth place.

The top five finish left the Red Raiders at the top of a crowded leaderboard of national championship contenders. No. 2 North Carolina claimed the 2024 Amer Ari team title, who were chased by second-place No. 7 Arizona State and third-place No. 1 Auburn. Tech shared fourth with No. 5 Washington, while the pair bested No. 12 Georgia Tech and No. 11 Florida State. Overall, the 20-team Amer Ari field featured nine Top 25 programs.

For the third straight day, Tech was led by Comegys, who posted his second straight round of 68 in round three. Aside from a slip-up on hole No. 7, Comegys was bogey-free on the remaining 17 holes while firing five birdies. The sophomore earned the second top-five finish (T-4 at The Prestige in 2022) of his career as a result, finishing in a three-way tie for fourth with North Carolina’s David Ford and Auburn’s Jackson Koivun.

Tech also saw strong final rounds from Baard Skogen and Calum Scott, who propelled themselves to a top-20 finish on Saturday. Skogen shook off an early double-bogey en route to his second straight round of 6-under-par 66, which featured eight birdies and placed him into a five-way tie for 14th to end the event. Scott, meanwhile, posted his best round of the week on Saturday with his own 6-under-par 66. The junior eagled for the second straight day, this time on hole No. 15, to go along with six birdies and just two bogeys as he finished in a nine-way tie for 19th place.

Also contributing to the Red Raiders’ four-counting scores on Saturday was Tyran Snyders, who finished tied for 33rd. Snyders fired his second sub-70 round of the week in round three at 4-under-par 68. Meanwhile, Vicente Marzilio scored a 3-under-par 69 for the second straight day to end his week tied for 55th.

Though he fell into a tie for 19th, freshman Price Hill placed the highest of any golfer competing individually after posting a total score of 13-under-par 203. The placement was also a career-best for Hill, who came into the Amer Ari with just one collegiate event to his name after competing in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate last September. Also competing as an individual was Jack Wall, who finished in a tie for 90th place.

The Red Raiders will have an eight-day break before returning to action at The Prestige in La Quinta, Calif., which is set to tee off Monday, Feb. 19.
