A Week in the Life of a Texas Tech Pom Squad Dancer

Being a member of the Texas Tech Pom Squad is an opportunity of a lifetime that comes with a lot of hard work, great memories, dedication, and life skills. Time management is a huge skill that is learned from this program and its busy schedule. The Texas Tech Pom Squad covers all football games, all men basketball games, and some volleyball and women’s basketball games while having their own practices and being a full time student. Throughout the fall semester the Pom Squad is booked Monday through Sunday.

Here is what a normal week on the Pom Squad looks like. On Monday, we have practice from 5:45 a.m. till 7:20 a.m. Tuesday brings another early morning with workouts from 5:45 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and then have night practice from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday morning practices were just added to this past semester with a 6:00 a.m. ballet class for an hour and a half. Thursday looks exactly like Tuesday with a morning lift and a night 2 ½ hour practice. Friday is normally an off day unless there is a home football game then we have a nighttime appearance at the Tech Club to rally with people before a home football game. Saturdays are game days which usually last around 10 hours from the time you start getting ready till the last second on the clock of the game. On Sunday Tech Pom practices from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

All of these weekly practices and workouts during the fall help the pom squad to get ready for upcoming games, appearances, training, and getting prepared for nationals.

While fall semester is super packed, after nationals, the spring semester has a lighter load with only 2 practices a week along with basketball games and weekly community appearances. I wouldn’t change this busy schedule because the opportunities and life skills learned from being a part of the Texas Tech Pom Squad bring out the most memorable memories.
