LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 4 Texas Tech baseball team clinched the series over No. 14 Oklahoma on Saturday with a 12-6 victory in the second game of the set at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

The Red Raiders (32-8, 10-4) racked up 12 runs hits on 14 runs to claim the set against OU (26-15, 9-5). On Friday, Tech stole the win with a walk-off balk in 10 innings for a 5-4 victory. It was the 16th time this season & sixth game in conference play the Red Raiders have scored in double digits.

Five different Tech hitters produced multi-hit bids on Saturday, with senior designated hitter Zach Rheams and junior catcher Zayne Willems each recording three. Rheams came a triple shy of the cycle, while Willems tallied three knocks for the third time in 2018.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Caleb Kilian got the start for the Red Raiders on Saturday afternoon. The Flower Mound native tossed 5.0 innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits, walking two and striking out three. He’s thrown at least 5.0 frames in all five starts this season and won all five of those games, improving to 5-1 in 2018.

The Red Raiders jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a three-run homer from sophomore Josh Jung. His eighth dinger of the year was sent on a rope into the home bullpen, scoring freshman Gabe Holt & sophomore Klein, who singled & walked, respectively, to begin the frame. It was the 16th time this season Tech has scored in the first inning, going 14-2 when doing so.

Tech tacked on another run in the next trip to the plate for a 4-0 score. After getting hit-by-a-pitch with one out, junior Cody Farhat stole second, but the throw from the catcher bounced off him and into left field, sending him around the bases for the fourth run of the day.

OU countered with three in the bottom of the third to make it a one-run contest. A solo homer from Cavalli kicked off the inning, followed by a one-out double from Walker, combined with an error brought in two to make it a 4-3 game.

Tech got one back in the bottom half of the inning, as Davis made good on Little’s free pass (HBP) with a two-out, RBI single to left field. In the next frame, a double from Klein plated Willems, who singled to begin the inning for a 6-3 advantage. It was the start of a four-run inning for Tech, as a groundout by Jung moved Klein to third, but an errant throw by the first baseman into the outfield sent Klein packing for home to score.

The Red Raiders continued to tack on after the error with a two-run dinger from Rheams onto the track in right field to make it a 9-3 score. His 11th homer of the year scored sophomore Grant Little after his two-out single and marked back-to-back games he’s hit a home run, the sixth time this season he’s accomplished the feat.

OU picked up two in the fifth with back-to-back homers of their own, as Walker & Murray sent two-out shots over the fence to pull the game to 9-5.

Tech added to its lead behind two runs in the sixth, pushing the advantage to 11-5. After a double by Jung put him & Klein in scoring position, a sacrifice fly from Little moved the duo up a bag and scored Klein. Shortly after, Rheams roped a double off the center field wall for the second run of the frame. Another run came across on a two-out single from Little, scoring Willems, who doubled to begin the seventh inning.

Oklahoma threatened in the ninth, putting two in scoring position to begin the frame and scoring a run on a sacrifice fly from Zaragoza, but junior RHP Ryan Shetter sandwiched a strikeout with two fly outs to end the game. Shetter threw 4.0 innings, allowing just the one run in the ninth on four hits, striking out six for his second save of the year.

The Red Raiders wrap its season series with Oklahoma on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park on FOX Sports Southwest Plus.
