LUBBOCK, Texas – After starting the season 1-0 for the seventh-straight year, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders are back at home as they host the Houston Christian Huskies on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. at the United Supermarkets Arena. Texas Tech is currently on a 6-0 win streak against Houston Christian dating back to 2011. The two teams last played in 2023-24 as the Lady Raiders came out with the79-34 victory on December 1, 2023.

In the home opener on Monday, Tech decisively beat Incarnate Word by a 78-48 score. In the game, Lubbock native and junior guard Adlee Blacklock connected with four 3-pointers in the game and led the Lady Raiders with 14 points. She attempted 10 threes in the game and shot 40 percent from the 3-point line. In addition, 14 of the 15 players on this year’s roster saw action in the game, with all recording some kind of stat line in it. Three Lady Raiders hit double-figure scoring in Black­lock, Jasmine Shavers (13) and Bailey Maupin (12), four Lady Raiders tallied five or more rebounds and three totaled two or more steals. In addition, five different players had a block.

Last season, Tech was 67th in the nation forcing over 18 turnovers a game. After Monday’s game against the Cardinals, Tech continued to play stellar defense as the team forced 26 turnovers and totaled 14 steals. The Lady Raiders held UIW to 26.3 percent from the field (10-for-13), which ranks 26th nationally and atop the Big 12, as well as held UIW to single-digit scoring in the first two quarters. Tech is also 36th nationally and third in conference in turnovers forced.

With the depth playing a huge part in this year’s team iden­tity, Texas Tech saw its bench score 37 points Monday night against Incarnate Word, which ranks 42nd nationally and sec­ond in the Big 12. Led by Blacklock with 14 points, Jor­dyn Merritt followed with nine points, then Jalynn Bristow with seven, Kilah Freelon with four and Loghan Johnson with three. The Lady Raiders began the season with 13 assists in game one against Incarnate Word, with nine players recording at least one assist in the contest. The team was led by newcomer Denae Fritz who had four assists, followed by Blacklock with two.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

The Houston Christian Huskies began their season on Tuesday with an away game against the TCU Horned Frogs, falling in the game by a 78-41 score. In the contest, the Huskies were led in points by Erin Maguire with eight, followed by Makolla Bagayegou with seven and Jo Oly with six. Houston Christian outrebounded TCU 44 to 30 on the night with Oly leading the charge after grabbing 10 boards. The Huskies are coached by Donna Finnie, who is in her 12th season at the helm.
