Buddy Holly Avenue & 8th Street Commercial Structure Fire
Just before 10:30am, Lubbock Fire Rescue received numerous 911 calls in reference to a possible commercial structure on fire near the intersection of Buddy Holly Avenue and 8th Street. Station 1 arrived first on scene advising of heavy fire and smoke coming from a medium single story commercial structure. Upon arrival, crews advised of a roof collapse, potential wall collapse and the structure including a basement. With these factors in mind, the Incident Commander (IC) determined that the best course of action was to have crews start and remain defensive. Ultimately meaning that no firefighters would be making entry into the structure. Shortly after that determination, the entire roof of the structure collapsed. Crews extinguished the fire with zero reported injuries and are working with the Lubbock Fire Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office to determine the cause of the fire & City of Lubbock Code Enforcement for an emergency demolition.
