Pre July 4th Events At Lubbock County Courthouse Square

Amigos La Raza on the Plaza – Saturday June 30th

Comedian Raymond Orta to host Amigos La Raza on the Plaza

Orta has been doing stand up comedy since he was eight years old and has always had a gift for making people laugh. He first took the stage wielding a microphone as a third-grader participating in a talent show. Hearing the crowd’s response, he knew that the art of comedy was his life’s calling.

Orta began pursuing a professional career in comedy at the age of 15 with a unique blend of Latino humor, impressions and stories of growing up in the barrio. Since then he has had the opportunity to work with comedians such as Kristen Keyes (Last Comic Standing), Juan Villareal (HBO’s Def Comedy Jam), the legendary Paul Rodriguez, and most recently Gabriel Iglesias amongst many others. Raymond’s unique brand of comedy coupled with the incredible performances from La Fiebre, Shelly Lares, Eddie Gonzalez, JR Gomez y Los Conjunto Bandits and Booby G & the Galaxy Band, is going to be an amazing time at this year’s Amigos La Raza on the Plaza.

The 28th Annual 4th on Broadway is excited to announce La Fiebre as the special guest headliner for this year’s Amigos La Raza on the Plaza Street Dance, joining Shelly Lares, Eddie Gonzalez, and JR Gomez y Los Conjunto Bandits.

La Fiebre, 1998 Grammy Nominee for Best Tejano Album La Fiebre from Pasadena, Texas is an exciting addition to this year’s lineup. La Fiebre’s Billboard chart-topping hits such as Vestida De Color De Rosa, Por Tu Culpa, and Borracho De Besos will be featured, along with many more.

The 2005 Tejano Music Awards Female Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year winner Shelly Lares will also be performing as one of this year’s Amigos La Raza on the Plaza artists. A San Antonio native and former Lubbock-resident, Lares is no stranger to the fun that is 4th on Broadway’s Amigos La Raza on the Plaza Street Dance.

Eddie Gonzalez, known as the “Dancing Cowboy,” has been entertaining Tejano music fans since the early 1990s. His album, Un Poco De Cambio, was nominated for Best Tejano Album at the 46th Grammy Awards in 2003. Gonzalez will also be a featured artist at this year’s event in addition to JR Gomez y Los Conjunto Bandits, bringing their energy and style to the street dance as well.

To join us at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 30 in the Lubbock County Courthouse Square, tickets can be purchased at, at Amigos, or at the gate. Tickets can be purchased for $15, and children 12 and under are free. For more information about this event, or others featured during the 28th Annual 4th on Broadway, visit
