Four Red Raiders land four on the two ABCA/Rawlings All-Midwest Region squads

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball had four student-athletes named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Midwest Region teams, it was announced today.

Sophomore Caleb Kilian, sophomore Grant Little & senior Zach Rheams all earned first team distinctions, while sophomore Josh Jung was placed on the second team. First team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors, which will be announced on Saturday, June 16.

Tech’s four honorees are the most since 1997, when Jason Gooding, Joe Dillon, Keith Ginter & Shane Wright all picked up the accolade.

Kilian, the right-handed pitcher from Flower Mound, has put together a 9-2 overall record over 10 starts & 19 appearances on the mound this season. He’s recorded a 3.04 ERA over 68.0 innings of work, striking out 59 batters, winning eight of his 10 starts. Kilian also pitched in four of Tech’s five shutouts, including a one-hitter one April 28 at TCU.

Little, an outfielder from Midland, has started all 62 games of the year and trails only Jung on offense both on the team & in the Big 12. He heads into the CWS with 87 hits, 73 RBI and 61 runs to go with a team-high 24 doubles and 12 homers.

Rheams, a native of Angleton, paces the Red Raiders with 17 homers, the most by a Tech hitter since 2007. Twenty-seven of his 54 have gone for extra bases this year, while racking up 54 RBI and 39 runs to go with it. He ranks fifth in the country in slugging percentage heading into the weekend.

Jung, the third baseman from San Antonio, leads the team in several offensive categories heading into the College World Series, topping the squad in batting average. He also paces the Red Raiders in hits (92), RBI (78) and runs scored (68). Jung leads the conference in each of those categories, while ranking fourth in the country in RBI.

The Red Raiders open the NCAA College World Series on Sunday, June 17, against Florida at 6 p.m. on ESPN2 at T.D. Ameritrade Park in Omaha.
